Best A Luck Farm, LLC
Best A Luck farm is located in northwest Marion County. Owned by Thomas and Lori Fackler both natives to the Ocala area. They have operated the exiting farm for the past 20 years. Through the years the farm has changed and grown to it’s current size of 45 acres with 5/8 mile race track. Lori Fackler grew up in the thoroughbred industry focusing mostly on the broodmare aspect. She met Thomas one summer when she was helping with the yearlings. Her father would train jockeys and Thomas had started the program which was from the ground up. It was here he began his equine education which continues on a daily basis. The Fackler’s Initial years were spent at many different race tracks where Thomas pursued his riding career. The constant travel helped them to decide on another path in the horse business. While Lori continued her education, Thomas worked at several notable farms including Manuden and Town and Country. With the new experiences and knowledge they began purchasing and yearlings to sell as 2 year olds-the start of their pinhooking ventures. This has progressed through the years and now many of the 2 year olds sold are homebreds.
The farm is full service from mares to training horses. Best A luck owns all or part of 12 mares including grade 1 producing Flirting with Fate. Our focus has been on improving our broodmare band as well as upgrading to stallions which may stand in Florida, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland or New York. We almost exclusively keep all foals until they are started and trained at which point they are either sold at 2 year old auction or raced. Even with our limited numbers we have been able to consistently sell quality horses. The last 3 years the consignment has sold horses for 6 figures at the Ocala Breeders Sales Company. Those sold were either homebreds or pinhooks. They include Fly Top Queen the highest priced Korean filly who is a multiple stakes winner. Dance With Fate the multiple graded place and Grade 1 winner of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes in 2014. Our other focus is on preparing young horses for the races. Our individual care allows for them to be well prepared for their new careers. In recent years we have started and trained the New Jersey 2 year old of the year, the Pennsylvania 2 year of the year and last year’s Florida 2 year colt of the year. This has been very exciting and rewarding as we are a smaller operation. We believe this has enabled us to focus more attention and time on the young horses. Living on site also allows for nightly checks and more contact time with the horses.
